Seriously.
After I found him completely surrounded by toilet paper for the third time, I knew that I needed a way to redirect him. And, this DIY baby toy really does help!
And, I think our bathroom will be cleaner from now on, too…
Make a Baby Play Station
It is easy to create this simple baby play station from a toilet paper roll craft and put it in the main area of your home. Older kids can help make this play idea for baby!
Supplies Needed
- Toilet Paper Rolls, craft rolls or paper towel rolls
- Felt, Fabric, Aluminum Foil, Bubble Wrap, or whatever you have around the house that has texture
- Curtain Rod
- Hot Glue Gun
Note: Be careful of choking hazards! Choose things to wrap around the toilet paper rolls that DO NOT have little pieces that can fall or be pulled off easily.
How to Make a DIY Baby Toy from Toilet Paper Rolls
I was surprised with how simple these were to make.
Prep Work
Step 1
Cut everything before you glue to make the process faster.
Make the Covered Toilet Paper Rolls
Step 2
Glue one side of the fabric (or, whatever you choose) to the toilet paper roll.
Step 3
Add some glue as you slowly roll the toilet paper roll.
Step 4
Glue the end shut (It will be hot, so watch your fingers! I used the edge of my scissors to push the edge down into the glue).
Step 5
Put glue around the rim of the toilet paper roll edge (See in the picture up there? I’m looking at step number three) and tuck all of the excess fabric inside the roll.
Step 6
After the rolls have dried, remove an excess hot glue.
Thread the TP Rolls onto a Curtain Rod
Step 7
Put the rolls on a curtain rod and watch them roll!!
Even my three-year-old got in on the fun.
So, What Exactly Is A Baby Play Station?
A baby play station is similar to baby activity tables. It’s a fun way for them to explore the world through touch and practice fine motor skills.
It’s sort of like an activity gym? Your child won’t be able to climb all over it like a baby gym, but there will be a lot of moving parts and things to touch. A lot of different activities for your child to explore, and hopefully bright colors, sound effects as they hit and touch and move stuff.
They can explore different textures. These activity stations really double as fun educational activities before for healthy development. The best part is, this one is also budget-friendly.
Is This Baby Play Station Only For Babies?
I would say younger children like toddlers can benefit from these play station as well. You would have to make sure you have the right height since the height positions of a baby and toddler are different. Whether you have a little baby you’re holding to support while they explore, a child who is learning to stay in standing position, or turn it into a toddler table, they will spend so much time playing with this modern activity center.
The best part is you have so many different options when it comes to what you put on here so your little bundle of joy will have a great time at the different levels exploring with their little hands.

Love, love, love this idea! My one year old is constantly ravaging the toilet papet, and all I could think of was wrapping some ribbon around a toilet roll-this idea makes for so much less mess!
